Serena Williams’ Husband Shares Where He Stands On Kendrick’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, And Her Ex Drake
You may have seen Serena Williams, the 23-time tennis Grand Slam champion, on the Super Bowl stage with Kendrick Lamar during his highly-anticipated halftime show, which also featured Grammy-award winner SZA and Oscar-winning actor Samuel L. Jackson, who played Uncle Sam.
The star power was strong, but some viewers were confused by Williams’ presence, and her Crip Walk on top of an elevated platform, at that.
Well, Williams was romantically linked to rapper Drake in the mid-2010s when the “Degrassi” actor-turned-rapper made his historic run on hip-hop. But things got messy once the quiet union ended, leading Williams’ husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, whom Williams married in 2017, to join her in dancing on Drake’s grave.
“Kendrick Bowl about to start ... Halftime show about to start and no one has left their seats ... Pretty fantastic halftime show,” Ohanian posted consecutively on X on Sunday — a clear dig at Drake, who has been at odds with Williams’ husband for several years.
Ohanian got even pettier on instagram, where he shared several photos of Sunday’s game, including one of Williams dancing to “Not Like Us,” Lamar’s smash hit and savage Drake diss.
Drake, who is often accused of pursuing the girlfriends and wives of fellow entertainers, wrote two songs, including bars intended for Williams following their break-up — “Too Good” in 2016, which Drake confirmed himself, and “Middle of the Ocean” in 2022 in which Drake targeted Ohanian directly.
“Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie / He claim we don’t got a problem but / No, boo, it is like you coming for sushi,” he rapped in the latter.
Ohanian responded on X in November 2022: “The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter,” accompanying a photo of him and the couple’s daughter Olympia, 7, watching Williams compete.
Williams married Ohanian almost eight years ago in New Orleans via a star-studded, fairy-tale-themed event held at the Contemporary Arts Center.
This is just the latest chapter in an ongoing feud that, in a surprising turn of events, reached the Super Bowl stage.
